Call for Demos

A new Demo experience

The [FULL CONFERENCE NAME], [ACRONYM] [YEAR] ([DATE] in [LOCATION]) invites demo proposals that address innovative and important topics related to the [MAIN TOPIC].

Demos will showcase the latest developments and prototypes related to the topics of interest of the conference. We seek proposals for demonstrations of pervasive technologies across the full environment of healthcare, starting from clinical applications to wearable, ambient, and home-based health monitoring technologies up to assistive devices and educational or motivational aids. We are also interested to demo innovative methodological design research material used in the process to generate insights and ideate healthcare innovations, e.g. experience sampling technologies, co-design technological toolkits. The expected demo submissions should describe the technical details of the demo alongside its contribution to the pervasive healthcare domain.

Demos provide authors an opportunity to demonstrate or present their work, including research, service, prototype or product addressing one or more of the suggested topics as presented in the general call for participation. A successful submission communicates ideas and concepts in a powerful way that a regular presentation cannot. All accepted submissions are showcased during the conference, where the presenters have the ability to interact with the conference attendees, and showcase their work and technologies. We therefore encourage making your demonstration visually or otherwise appealing and presenting it in an innovative way.

Share your innovation idea, get instant feedback from an expert audience, and transform your research project into a business idea, showcasing your demo to an audience beyond the Summit!

Submission Instructions

In order to be considered for on-site demonstration at [CONFERENCE], a PDF containing an abstract describing the Demo should be submitted via Confy, in accordance with [PUBLISHER] guidelines (see Author’s Kit section) and a 2000 character limit. Figures and tables may be included if needed, not subject to the character limit.

Submission deadline: [DATE]

Demo submissions should describe the technology that will be showcased as well as the reasoning behind it. You may find the full list of topics in the Topics section below.

Topics

We welcome contributions from the following fields:

  • Sensing/Actuating Technologies and Pervasive Computing
  • Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health Professions
  • Health informatics applications
  • Data-enabled research tools
  • Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW)
  • Hardware and Software Infrastructures

Important Dates

  • Submission deadline: 4th March 2019
  • Notification of acceptance: 11th March 2019
  • Camera-ready deadline: 25 March 2019
  • Start of Conference: 20th May 2019
  • End of Conference: 23rd May 2019

Publication

Accepted and registered Demos will be published by EAI separately from the conference proceedings, with Open Access and showcased in EUDL – European Union Digital Library, and EAI360 – EAI’s Innovation Workbench.

Selection

Submissions will be evaluated and selected based on their quality, originality, and significance to the areas of interest for [CONFERENCE]. Submissions outside of the conference’s Scope should justify their relevance to the main area of interest.

Confidentiality of submissions is maintained during the review process, and demos will be selected through a single-blind review process and authors name and affiliation must be on the paper. All rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted materials for accepted submissions will be kept confidential until the start of the conference. Submissions will be evaluated based on their originality, significance of the contribution to the field, technical correctness and presentation, as well as the potential to include participation by conference attendees. The submission should make explicit how the work offers unique and substantial contribution beyond what has already been published or submitted.

Presentation

Accepted and registered Demos will be showcased at the venue open to the conference participants. Authors will need to be available for installation, and for facilitating interaction with their work at scheduled times during the conference at their designated Demo table. Authors are expected to bring physical equipment for a prototype demonstration.

Attendance

At least one author of an accepted Demo must register and present the demo at the conference venue.  Specific requirements will be arranged with presenters of accepted demos, however, demos should be self-supporting as the organizers will only be able to provide space, electricity and an internet connection.
